Monthly Bulk Pick Up

Solid Waste Services: What’s Changing & Why

As many residents know, the Town of Ponder operates under a franchise agreement with Waste Connections for solid waste services. The contract was recently updated, and there are a few important changes residents should understand.

Monthly Curbside Bulk Pickup

Previously, bulk disposal was only offered twice per year. Because our community overwhelmingly requested more frequent service, the Town negotiated monthly bulk pickup by appointment before the 3rd Tuesday of each month.

The contract also included a CPI rate adjustment due to inflation. Instead of accepting a cost increase without added benefit, we negotiated improved service in return.

Key Change: Items MUST Be Inside the Bin

All items must now be placed inside the trash bin unless you have scheduled a bulk pickup. No more loose items placed beside the cart.

Why?

 1. Liability & property loss – Past issues included bikes, grills, and other property accidentally thrown away. The appointment system prevents this.

 2. Automated trucks – Single-operator trucks use a mechanical arm; they cannot pick up loose items.

 3. Cost control – Courtesy pickups that take extra time ultimately drive up service rates. Standardizing procedures helps keep costs low.

Easy Solutions

 1. Break down cardboard and place it inside the recycling cart; consider a second cart if needed.

 2. Use monthly bulk pickup by calling before the 3rd Tuesday.

 3. Follow the bin-only rule—anything outside the bin will not be collected.

As Ponder continues to grow, following these guidelines helps keep services reliable and costs manageable for everyone. Thank you for your partnership and understanding.
